NEET UG examinations previously had an upper age limit of 25 years for candidates in the general category and 30 years for candidates in the reserved category.

The National Medical Commission took the decision to remove the fixed upper age limit for appearing in the NEET-UG 2023 examination under the guidance of the Graduate Medical Education Board. Dr. Pulkesh Kumar, Secretary of NMC, wrote the following in a letter to the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts entrance exams for higher education: “I would like to inform that it has been decided in the 4th NMC meeting held on 21st Oct 2021 that there should not be any fixed upper age limit for appearing in the NEET-UG 2023 examination. The process for official notification to suitably amend the Regulations on Graduate Medical Education, 1997 to this effect has been initiated.”

In India, NEET is the only examination for admission to MBBS, BDS, and some other allied courses. More than 15 lakh students take (take with a grain of salt idiom synonym) the test each year. Having removed the age limit criteria, aspiring medical students can now take the medical entrance exam whenever they want, even if they have applied for admission to another course, an official said.
