10th-class students are usually in a dilemma of which competitive exam they should prepare for and appear in. Here is a list of a few prestigious competitive exams.

10th-class students have a lot to look into, including which stream to opt for, what competitive exam they can appear in, how to prepare, etc. During all this confusion, the most essential question that arises in the mind of students is, are they acquainted with the names of the competitive exams after class 10? As most of you might be aware of NEET or JEE, but no more than that. This lack of knowledge about exams scales down opportunities for an individual.

Further, competitive exams are not the only gateway to getting admission into the desired college but also help in students’ development. Competitive exams improve a student’s analytical skills, logical thinking, problem-solving approach, etc. Here is the list of top competitive exams that students can take.

List of Top Competitive Exams After 10th Class

1. JEE (Joint Entrance Examination)

JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) is the national-level exam conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency). Students who seek admission into top engineering colleges in India for various courses need to appear in the JEE exam. There are two stages of JEE: Main and Advanced. Top 2,50,000 rankers in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main are eligible to sit for the Advanced exam. The exam is conducted twice a year in which 12 appearing or passed out students can apply.

2. NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test)

NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) is also conducted by NTA. Students who like science subjects and looking forward to serving as a doctor, dentists, etc., have to appear for this exam. It is a national-level examination that is held once a year. The questions in the exam paper are framed from the 11 and 12 topics of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. This examination is as tough as JEE, approximately 16 lakhs students applied in 2021 and a few got qualified to get into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, etc., colleges.

3. NTSE (National Talent Search Examination)

National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a scholarship program conducted by NCERT. The main purpose of NTSE is to identify talented students and provide them with financial aid for their future studies. It is conducted every year and includes two stages. The first tier is the state-level exam, while the second tier is the national-level examination. The paper includes questions from sciences, maths, general aptitude, social science, and mental ability. Students who qualify in both stages are eligible to receive scholarships.

4. KVPY (Kishore Vigyanik Protsahan Yojana)

Kishore Vigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is conducted by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It is a national-level fellowship program held every year. Students studying classes 11, 12 and freshman year (college first year) are eligible to apply for this examination. The main agenda is to identify students’ interest in science & technology and provide them with financial support for further research. KVPY includes two stages: the first stage is similar to other competitive exams in which the aptitude of an individual is evaluated. The second stage comprises an interview, students who qualify in both stages are rewarded with the fellowship.

5. NSO (National Level Science Exam)

Students from classes 1 to 12 can apply for the NSO (National Level Science Exam). SOF (Science Olympiad Foundation) is responsible for conducting the exam and promoting subjects at the school level. These subjects include:

  • Science
  • English
  • Computer Science
  • General Knowledge
  • Mathematics and other professional streams.
