This IIT Delhi Admission 2026 Guide will address all your questions regarding IIT Delhi fees, cutoffs, courses, placements, and rankings in a single place with verified data. IIT Delhi (Indian Institute of Technology Delhi) is the #1-ranked institution in the QS World University Rankings (globally ranked #123), and it has consistently been so for a long time.

But if you do make it, there are definite returns. The median salary at the time (race against time phrase meaning) of B.Tech or CSE graduation is ₹19.08 LPA, with students regularly receiving international packages with a valuation exceeding ₹2 crore per annum.
This blog will cover details on IIT Delhi fees 2026, program eligibility, JoSAA counselling dates, branch-wise JEE Advanced cutoff, placement stats, scholarship details and national and global rankings. All the above information is based on the official prospectus of IIT Delhi, NIRF data and JoSAA records and official data from the office of Career Services.

Fee Waivers & Concessions
IIT Delhi has one of the most liberal waiver policies in the country. What it looks like in practice is this:
- SC/ST/PwD students: Tuition fee is waived for 100% of programs at the UG and PG level irrespective of family income.
- General/OBC students of whose family income is less than ₹1 lakh/year: Waiver of full tuition fee at UG level.
- Family income: ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh/year (UG level): 2/3rd of the tuition is waived.
- Hostel and mess charges: This is charged separately between ₹36,000 to ₹51,000 per semester depending on the accommodation provided.
Quick Perspective: Many students think that the IIT is costlier. The truth is quite the contrary. However, the B.Tech from IIT Delhi is more affordable at about ₹2.1 lakh per year (excluding hostel) than the most decent private colleges in India.

IIT Delhi Application Process 2026: Step-by-Step
The IIT Delhi Admission Process 2026 follows three distinct and clear steps – National Exam, Portal Registration, and Campus Reporting. Let’s explain each of the steps.
Stage 1: Clear the National Entrance Exam
All the IIT Delhi courses begin with a National Entrance Test and that’s a given fact. The first stage of B.Tech is to pass JEE Main and the top 2.5 lakh rank holders are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. You then appear for JEE Advanced and the All-India Rank (AIR) you obtain from the exam is the deciding factor for your admission to IIT Delhi.
The first step for M.Tech is a GATE score. For MBA – CAT, For M.Sc.- IIT JAM. After your results are posted, review your score to ensure you are passing the minimum qualifying score in your category.
Stage 2: Register on the Relevant Portal
This step works differently depending on the program you’re applying to.
- Centralised route (B.Tech, M.Sc., M.Tech): Visit the JoSAA website (idioms website) for B.Tech and the COAP/JAM website for PG. Fill the preferences window with IIT Delhi and your choice of branch at the top. The ranking of your preferences is important; the top preferences receive preference in the allocation process.
- Direct institutional route (MBA, PhD): Register on the PG/Management Admission Portal of IIT Delhi. Upload your entrance scorecard, complete the bio-data form and pay the Application fee. The fee is ₹300 for General and ₹150 for Reserved.
Stage 3: Shortlisting, Seat Acceptance & Campus Reporting
For MBA, M.Des and PhD, applicants will be short listed by the department (interview or written test) before seat offer is available. After the seat offer appears on the dashboard (JoSAA or institutional portal), confirm the seat by paying the non-refundable admission fee. Later go to Hauz Khas campus on the allocated date accompanied with originals of all academic documents, qualifying scorecard, government ID and category certificates.
IIT Delhi B.Tech Admission 2026: Important Dates
Here is the schedule which you should mark for the JEE Advanced 2026 cycle:
| Step | What Happens | Eligibility | Key Dates 2026 |
| Step 1 – JEE Main | National filter exam. Top 2.5 lakh qualifiers advance. | Class 12 appeared/passed | January & April 2026 |
| Step 2 – JEE Advanced | The final IIT entrance. Your AIR decides IIT Delhi eligibility. | 75% in Class 12 PCM (65% for SC/ST/PwD) | Exam: 17 May 2026; Result: 1 June 2026 |
| Step 3 – JoSAA Counselling | Centralised seat allocation. Lock IIT Delhi at the top. | Valid AIR in JEE Advanced 2026 | 2 June – 11 June 2026 |
| Step 4 – Campus Reporting | Online fee payment + physical document verification at Hauz Khas. | Original academic, medical & category certificates | Late July – Early August 2026 |
One thing to note: JoSAA 2026 counselling starts just one day after JEE Advanced results are declared. That’s an extremely short window. Know your list of branch preferences in advance – don’t leave it to the last minute when counselling takes place.
IIT Delhi JEE Advanced Cutoff 2026: Branch-Wise Closing Ranks
The IIT Delhi Cutoff 2026 below indicates the last round closing ranks for the General (Gender-Neutral, All India Quota) category. These numbers are based on benchmarking from the official data on the final round of seats available in the prior cycle of JoSAA 2026.
It’s useful to see the difference between the Round 1 opening rank and the closing rank; it gives a clue as to how much the cut-off moves across the allocation rounds. In the case of CSE, the first rank is 24 while the last closing rank is 126. That is a pretty large range, so just don’t rule yourself out if you are in the middle.
| B.Tech Branch / Specialisation | Round 1 Opening Rank | Final Round Closing Rank |
| Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) | 24 | 126 |
| Artificial Intelligence & Data Science | 102 | 480 |
| Mathematics & Computing | 120 | 429 |
| Electrical Engineering | 365 | 605 |
| Electrical Engineering (Power & Automation) | 400 | 823 |
| Mechanical Engineering | 800 | 1,765 |
| Engineering Physics | 1,050 | 2,680 |
| Chemical Engineering | 1,400 | 2,410 |
| Production & Industrial Engineering | 1,900 | 3,320 |
| Civil Engineering | 2,200 | 4,260 |
| Materials Engineering | 3,600 | 4,380 |
| Biochemical Engineering & Biotechnology | 3,100 | 5,130 |
| Textile Technology | 4,200 | 5,733 |
Important notes on cutoffs: The above ranks are for CRL (Common Rank List) Open/General. If you are from OBC-NCL, SC or ST, your allocation is determined based on your Category Rank and not CRL. Furthermore, female-only supernumerary seat cutoffs are normally 15 to 2 times deeper than the gender-neutral closing ranks shown here. For a female candidate therefore more branches may be available than is listed in this table.

IIT Delhi Placements 2026: Official Statistics
Phase 1 of the IIT Delhi placement 2026 data has been officially released by the Office of Career Services (OCS). The recruitment campaign concluded at the end of 2025, with the figures revealing a definite improvement on most indicators. The total gross rose to over 1,275, which represents a 6.3% increase over 1,200 the previous year. Interestingly, Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) increased by 33% which goes to show the enthusiasm of companies in the students they met during internships.
The international offers continued to lag this cycle with a figure of 35, which is just a bit slower than last year. That is not an exclusive concern of IIT Delhi, but is a general trend of tech markets across the world.
| Placement Metric | 2025–26 (Phase 1) | Year-on-Year Change |
| Gross Job Offers Received | 1,275 | +6.3% (from 1,200 last year) |

| Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) | 300+ | Strong +33% jump over the previous cycle |
| International Job Offers | 35 | Slower trend – conservative global tech hiring |
IIT Delhi Placement: Important Points to Know
Extreme individual package figures are not officially provided by the IIT Delhi. This is a conscious policy to help ensure students’ welfare and to prevent unhealthy comparisons. Based on NIRF returns and Campus Tracker data:
- Tech CSE median packages: ₹30–35 LPA. Top international offers: ₹2+ crore per annum
- General B.Tech 4-year median (all branches combined): ₹20 LPA
- Integrated B.Tech + M.Tech 5-year median: ₹30 LPA
This year, the Core Technical and Engineering sector had the largest share of placed students with 36.6% placed in the sector. Some of the largest volume employers included companies such as Texas Instruments and Qualcomm. Interesting reversal from the last few years with an IT/software focus.
Finance was a smaller proportion at 10.2% but was responsible for the highest number of domestic packages on campus. Quant trading firms like Graviton Research Capital and Squarepoint Capital had packages that often rivalled their international tech counterparts, ranging in size from ₹1–2 crore.
