JEE Advanced Cutoff IIT JEE Cut off, Qualifying Marks

JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff IIT Roorkee is the conducting body for JEE Advanced 2026, and the JEE Advanced official result, along with the qualifying cutoff, will be released on June 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM IST on jeeadv.ac.in. Along with your score, the rank list and category-wise qualifying marks will also be published on the same day.

The JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff is the minimum score required to qualify for the rank list and participate in IIT admissions. IIT Roorkee will release the category-wise qualifying cutoff after the declaration of JEE Advanced 2026 results. Candidates can check expected cutoff marks, previous year trends, and qualifying criteria for General, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, and PwD categories here.

Now, what can you expect? According to the official cut-off data of IIT Kanpur for 2025, the CRL (General category) qualifying marks are 74 out of 360 and a minimum of 7 marks for each subject. In 2024, the CRL cutoff was 109 (a much larger increase, as that paper was relatively easy). Analysing the 2026 paper and the trend, the experts believe that the JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff for General category may fall somewhere between 74 and 90 marks in all three sections as an aggregate, i.e. 360 marks.

Students often get it wrong. The IIT JEE cut-off that is published with the result is only the minimum you need to appear on the rank list. It does not guarantee an IIT seat. Your actual admission depends on your All India Rank (AIR) and the choices you fill during JoSAA counselling. Think of the cutoff as the entry ticket. What matters next is how high above it you scored.

This page includes all the data of JEE Advanced expected qualifying marks category-wise; the cutoff of JEE Advanced in the previous 4 years from IIT Kanpur and other important details that affect the change in JEE Advanced cutoff, etc. All the above data is taken from the official results of IIT.

These are expected figures based on 2025 official data and 2026 paper difficulty trends. The final JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff will be officially confirmed at jeeadv.ac.in on June 1, 2026.

Reading this table: When reading this table: The ‘Min. % Aggregate column lists the minimum percentage of the total marks in all subjects that is required. The ‘Min. %’ column for each subject indicates what you need, separately, in each subject (all subjects have their own bar). If you do not cross the minimum, you are disqualified from the rank list, regardless of your overall score.

JEE Advanced 2025 Official Qualifying Marks – Confirmed by IIT Kanpur

The JEE Advanced 2025 cutoff along with ranking has been released by the IIT Kanpur. The 2025 paper was significantly harder, particularly Paper 2, where the CRL cutoff decreased from 109 marks in 2024 to 74 in 2025, a drop of almost 32%. This is one of the biggest decreases in recent years.

Rank List Min. Marks Each Subject Min. Aggregate Marks (Out of 360)
Common Rank List (CRL) 7 74
OBC-NCL Rank List 6 66
GEN-EWS Rank List 6 66
SC Rank List 3 37
ST Rank List 3 37
Common-PwD Rank List (CRL-PwD) 3 37
OBC-NCL-PwD Rank List 3 37
GEN-EWS-PwD Rank List 3 37
SC-PwD / ST-PwD Rank List 3 37
Preparatory Course (PC) Rank List 1 18

What this data tells you: In the year 2025, CRL was 74 out of 360 and approximately 20.56% of the total marks. It was 66 marks (18.50%) for OBC-NCL and 37 marks (10.28%) for SC/ST/PwD candidates. The minimum for the CRL was 7 marks per subject, which seems low, but the paper was definitely harder in 2025, particularly Paper 2.

Cut-off Criteria for Inclusion in the JEE Advanced 2025 Rank List

Apart from the absolute marks table, IIT Kanpur also publishes the cutoff as percentages. This is the table that officially defines who gets included in the rank list. If you are doing a percentage-based self-assessment after seeing your score, use this table.

Rank List Min. % Each Subject Min. % Aggregate Marks
Common Rank List (CRL) 5.83% 20.56%
OBC-NCL Rank List 5.25% 18.50%
GEN-EWS Rank List 5.25% 18.50%
SC Rank List 2.92% 10.28%
ST Rank List 2.92% 10.28%
Common-PwD Rank List (CRL-PwD) 2.92% 10.28%
OBC-NCL-PwD / GEN-EWS-PwD 2.92% 10.28%
SC-PwD / ST-PwD Rank List 2.92% 10.28%
Preparatory Course (PC) Rank List 1.46% 5.14%

Insight for students: Step one is to qualify the cutoff. However, in JoSAA counselling, a rank of 5,000 is far different than a rank of 500, although both have qualified. Never set the “min” as the goal.

Last 4 Years JEE Advanced Cutoff Trends – CRL and Category-wise

The best way to understand the 2026 number is to analyse the last 4 years of JEE Advanced qualifying marks. The official IIT data provided below are for IIT Kanpur, 2025; IIT Madras, 2024; IIT Guwahati, 2023; and IIT Bombay, 2022.

Year CRL Aggregate OBC-NCL / EWS Aggregate SC / ST Aggregate CRL Min. per Subject Paper Difficulty
2025 74 66 37 7 Difficult
2024 109 98 54 10 Moderate
2023 86 77 43 8 Moderate
2022 55 50 28 5 Difficult

What this trend shows: Almost always, the cut-off and paper difficulty are inversely related. The paper was difficult in 2022, CRL fell to 55. Papers in 2023 and 2024 were easier and the cutoffs were 86 and 109, respectively. In 2025, a tougher paper again lowered the CRL to 74. The CRL range of 74-90 is reasonable for 2026 as the paper difficulty level has been rated as moderate to difficult at IIT Roorkee.

The difference in CRL and OBC-NCL/EWS is also remarkably stable in the range of 8-11 marks over the years. The SC/ST cutoff has been kept at around 30-50% of the CRL cutoff in general. The ratios are consistent from year to year and can help you with your own estimate.

JEE Advanced 2024 Qualifying Marks (Official – IIT Madras)

Rank List Min. Marks Each Subject Min. Aggregate Marks
Common Rank List (CRL) 10 109

GEN-EWS Rank List 9 98
SC Rank List 5 54
ST Rank List 5 54
Common-PwD / OBC-PwD 5 54
Preparatory Course (PC) 2 27

The CRL cutoff for 2024 is also the highest in recent years at 109. The exam was conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and the question paper was of moderate difficulty. More students scored in the higher range and the qualifying bar was raised significantly. Cut Off for SC/ST was 54, which is quite high when compared with the Cut Off for SC/ST of 2023 which was 43.

JEE Advanced 2023 Qualifying Marks (Official – IIT Guwahati)

Rank List Min. Marks Each Subject Min. Aggregate Marks

ST Rank List 3 28
Common-PwD / OBC-PwD 3 28
Preparatory Course (PC) 1 14

Key Things Every JEE Advanced 2026 Aspirant Must Know About the Cutoff

  • There are two cutoffs: one is the qualifying cutoff (where you will appear in the rank list) and the other is the JoSAA admission cutoff (where you will be admitted to a particular branch in a particular institute). Passing the qualifying cut-off point does not automatically mean that you will be accepted for counselling. Rank determines admission.
  • Subject-wise minimum is non-negotiable: All three – Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics must individually cross the minimum. You cannot compensate with one strong subject.
  • More than 1.5 to 1.8 lakh students appear for the JEE Advanced exams with total IIT BTech seats being around 17,695. If you get any of the IIT seats, you are in the top 10-12% of the people who appear.
  • Cutoff is not equivalent to admission: IIT Bombay CSE (General) has always closed below 100 ranks. The IIT Roorkee Civil Department may be closed at lower ranks below 5000. Qualifying matters but ranking is the determining factor in your options.
  • The Preparatory Course cutoff: This is about half the SC/ST cutoff and is specifically for candidates who only fall short of the qualifying bar of the reserved category. In 2025, it was only 1 mark for each subject and 18 marks in total.
  • JEE Advanced 2026 Result Date: June 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM IST at jeeadv.ac.in. The qualifying cutoff is released at the same time (race against time phrase meaning) as the result.

What Decides the JEE Advanced Cutoff Every Year?

The JEE Advanced qualifying marks are not fixed. They move every year based on four things:

  • Paper difficulty: This is the biggest factor. If the paper is tough, then the cutoff for the JEE Advanced is reduced accordingly, as it affects all the scores. The 32% decline from 2024 to 2025 is a prime example of the same number of seats, the same percentage structure, but a more challenging exam results in a lower cutoff.
  • The number of students appearing for the test: The higher the number of students, the more competitive the exam will be generally. However, the paper difficulty is a more significant factor for cutoff movement.
  • Student overall performance: If the questions are easier or the topics are more predictable, then the cutoff will rise if students do better overall. This was certainly the case in 2024.
  • Available IIT seats: The number of seats in IITs changes slightly year to year. A small increase in seats can have a minor softening effect on cutoffs at the margins.

One Practical Tip from the Faculty of Motion Education: Consider your cutoff as the ground and not your target. Include 35–40 marks above the expected qualifying marks as your personal minimum. This buffer safeguards you from unexpected surprises at the time of counselling through JoSAA.

JEE Advanced Qualifying Cutoff vs IIT Admission Cutoff – Do Not Confuse the Two

This is the single most common source of confusion among students, and it is worth being very clear about it.

  • Qualifying Cutoff is the minimum marks needed to be included in the JEE Advanced rank list. If you score above it, you get an AIR. That is all it does.
  • Admission Cutoff is the opening and closing rank at which a specific branch in a specific IIT closes during JoSAA counselling. This changes every year and is published separately after each counselling round.

If a student wants to pursue a top IIT in CSE, Electronics, Electrical branches, he/she should have a CRL rank of 500-1000 in the General category. For the General category, Mechanical and Civil generally rank between 3000 and 7000 in mid-tier IITs. These are historical figures; actual figures are subject to change from year to year depending on seat availability and student preferences.

Motion Education’s Insights for JEE Advanced 2026 Aspirants

At Motion Education we have witnessed thousands of students in this very situation. Our faculty regularly stresses the following:

  • Students aiming for 40+ marks more than the expected JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff are in a better spot as qualifying is not enough to open the gates to IIT; it is rank that matters.
  • On the subject level, Mathematics is frequently the key to success for students who are equally ranked. If you score well in Maths, you can get a high rank.
  • Never neglect to prepare for the minimum marks in subjects. If one subject score is 0, then you will be disqualified even if your total score is above the cutoff.

Frequently Asked Questions – JEE Advanced 2026 Cutoff

Q1. When will the JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff be released?

The JEE Advanced 2026 result and qualifying cutoff will be released on June 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM IST on jeeadv.ac.in. Both the rank list and the category-wise minimum qualifying marks are published together on the same day.

Q2. What is the expected JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff for the General category?

On the basis of the official cutoff of 2025 (74 marks) and by analysing the difficulty level of the papers in 2026, the JEE Advanced 2026 CRL qualifying marks are expected to be 74-90 of 360 with a minimum of 7-10 marks per subject. The exact number will be announced on June 1.

Q3. What was the JEE Advanced cutoff in 2025?

The JEE Advanced 2025 official cutoff released by IIT Kanpur was: CRL 74 marks aggregate (7 marks per subject); OBC-NCL and GEN-EWS 66 marks (6 per subject); SC, ST, and all PwD categories 37 marks (3 per subject); Preparatory Course 18 marks aggregate (1 per subject).

Q4. Can I qualify JEE Advanced if I score well in two subjects but poorly in one?

No. The JEE Advanced rank list requires you to meet the minimum marks in each subject individually as well as in aggregate. A poor score in even one subject, say, 2 marks in Chemistry for a CRL candidate, will get you excluded from the rank list regardless of your total.

Q5. Does qualifying JEE Advanced guarantee a seat in an IIT?

No, qualifying Cutoff means you are on the rank list and are eligible for JoSAA counselling. Seat allotment in an IIT is a real thing and will be determined by the AIR, your preference of branches and the way the counselling rounds go. A lot of students qualify for the cutoff, but if their rank is not competitive for the available branches, they don’t get an IIT seat.
