How is the JEE Advanced Score Calculated?
Here is how the JEE Advanced 2026 score will be calculated:
- The first step to determining a score in the JEE Advanced result is adding the candidate’s subject-wise marks in Papers 1 and 2. That means adding the Mathematics marks of Papers 1 & 2. Do the same for Chemistry and Physics.
- Using the calculated score in each subject, the authority will calculate the aggregate score of candidates.
- Based on this aggregate score, the JEE Advanced 2026 rank list will be prepared, and candidates will know their JEE Advanced rank. Paper 1 and 2 marks are considered while calculating the aggregate marks, so make sure you appear in both papers.
JEE Advanced Rank List 2026 – Tie-breaking Rule
There are times when two or more candidates score the same aggregate marks. Hence, to determine their rank, there are tie-breaking rules that authorities follow. These are:
- The first criterion is determining the highest positive marks. A candidate with higher positive marks will be positioned at a higher rank.
- If there is still a tie, the next factor to consider is Mathematics marks. A candidate with more marks in Mathematics will get a higher position in the rank list.
- In case the tie is not resolved yet, then a candidate with more marks will be positioned at a higher rank.
- If there is still a tie, candidates will be given the same rank in the IIT result 2026.
IIT JEE Advanced Result Statistics 2026
A total of 56,880 candidates qualified in JEE Advanced 2026 out of 1,79,694 candidates who appeared for both papers, while 1,87,389 candidates had registered for the examination. Among the qualified candidates, the General category recorded 15,883 qualifiers (including PwD), followed by 15,856 candidates from the SC category, 12,385 from the OBC-NCL category, 6,379 from the ST category, and 6,377 from the GEN-EWS category. The category-wise data includes both PwD and non-PwD candidates.

JEE Advanced 2026 Cutoff
Both the JEE Advanced result 2026 and the cutoff 2026 will be released on the same date. JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff will include total qualifying marks, subject-wise qualifying marks, and category-wise cutoff. If a candidate can qualify for JEE Advanced in more than one category, all categories will be considered for the JEE Advanced 2026 ranking.
Based on the JEE Advanced ranking list, candidates will get shortlisted and be able to participate in JEE Advanced counselling 2026. However, the selection of candidates in IITs will depend on the available seats. There are various counselling and seat allotment sessions conducted during the admission process. Once the counselling and admission process is over, JoSAA releases the cutoff list for different IITs. There will be different cutoffs in different IITs also, it will vary based on the candidate’s category.
