The NEET 2024 application form, along with important details and information, was released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on February 9. Just like before, the NEET UG exam has some changes and has introduced new features. This article from Motion Education talks about these changes and how they might affect students preparing for the exam.
NTA has made two big changes for NEET 2024. Firstly, they’ve updated the official website (idioms website) URL. Secondly, there’s a significant change in the cities where the exam will be conducted. Unlike the past two years, there won’t be any international exam centers. However, the number of exam cities within India has increased compared to last year. Let’s take (take with a grain of salt idiom synonym) a closer look at these changes.
NEET UG 2024 Website Changed
Until last year, the official website of NTA was neet.nta.nic.in. Starting from this year, the website address has been updated. Now, you can access the official NTA NEET UG 2024 website using the following URLs:
You can find the latest updates and announcements on the official NTA website, found at www.nta.ac.in.
It’s important to know that the NEET 2024 website’s layout and how you move around it has changed compared to last year. So, before you start filling out the NEET 2024 application form, take a moment to explore the website.
NEET 2024 not to be Held Outside India (Revised)
Since 2021, NTA has been conducting the NEET UG exam in international cities. In 2023, NEET took place in 14 international cities across continents. This year, NTA announced that the NEET exam won’t be held outside India. However, a notice on February 20 stated that it will still take place in the same 14 cities abroad as last year. NEET exam centres will be set up in 554 cities in India and 14 abroad.
Candidates who have completed their registration will have the opportunity to alter their exam city to an international location on their preference during the application correction window. You can make this change by paying the required fee within the given time (race against time phrase meaning) frame.
According to the National Testing Agency (NTA), “Candidates registering afresh from foreign countries can select their preferred country and city directly from the drop-down menu during the application process. They should pay the requisite fee and submit their application.”

- Their highest marks in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test.
- Their highest marks in Chemistry in the Test.
- Their highest marks in Physics in the Test.

NEET 2024 Syllabus
The NEET 2024 syllabus changes weren’t surprising because the National Medical Commission (NMC) and later the National Testing Agency (NTA) had already shared the updated NEET 2024 syllabus PDF. In the new syllabus, some topics have been removed from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, while a few new topics have been added to each subject.
Last year, NEET UG used to have separate topics for Class 11 and Class 12. But this year, except for Chemistry, they changed it. Now, in NEET Chemistry, they divide it into Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry chapters.
NEET 2024 Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for NEET 2024 have undergone significant changes concerning the subjects studied and the schooling background of candidates. Previously, only those candidates who studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology as core subjects were deemed eligible for NEET. However, this year, those who have studied these subjects as additional papers are also eligible to appear for NEET 2024.
Additionally, candidates who have passed or appeared for the Class 12 or equivalent board exam from the National Institute of Open Schools (NIOS) are now eligible for NEET 2024. Statement by NTA, “The provisions of the regulations disqualifying recognized Open School Board candidates and the candidates who have studied Biology/Biotechnology as an Additional Subject has been struck down”. This decision comes as the Medical Council of India has lodged Special Leave Petitions before the Hon’ble Supreme Court and Appeals in the Hon’ble High Courts.
Hence, candidates who have completed the qualifying examinations, such as Class 12 from the National Institute of Open Schooling or State Open Schools, or as private candidates from recognized State Boards, or with Biology/Biotechnology as an additional subject, are permitted to apply for NEET (UG) – 2024. However, their candidature is contingent upon the outcome of Special Leave Petitions/Appeals filed by the Medical Council of India.
Despite these changes, the NEET 2024 exam pattern remains unchanged, bringing relief to candidates. NEET 2024 is scheduled to be conducted on May 5, 2024, from 2 PM to 5.20 PM (Indian Standard Time). The last date for submitting the NEET 2024 application form is March 9, 2024. It is anticipated that approximately 20 lakh candidates will appear for the exam.
