Criteria 2: JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria- Age Limit For JEE Advanced
Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 2000. Five years of age relaxation is given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates, ie, these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1995.
Criteria 3: JEE Advanced Eligibility criteria- JEE Advanced Number of Attempts Limit
A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
Criteria 4: JEE Advanced 2025 Eligibility Criteria- Appearance in 12th (or equivalent) Examination
As per the JEE Advanced eligibility criteria, candidates must have appeared for their Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time (race against time phrase meaning) in 2024, or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. This is a key requirement for the Eligibility for JEE Advanced.
Who is NOT eligible?
Candidates who appeared for their Class XII exams in 2023 or earlier are not eligible to sit for the JEE Advanced 2025 exam, regardless of the subjects taken.
Important Note:
An “appearance” in the Class XII exam means that the Board officially declared results for that year, whether or not the exams were actually conducted. This counts even if a candidate’s result was withheld. So, if a candidate’s result was announced by the board, it will be considered as an attempt under the JEE Advanced qualifying marks criteria.
Criteria 5: JEE Advanced 2025 Eligibility Criteria- Earlier Admission to the IITs
A candidate should NOT have been admitted to an IIT irrespective of whether or not the candidate continued in the program OR accepted an IIT seat by reporting “online” / at a “reporting centre” in the past. Candidates whose admission to IITs was cancelled (for whatever reason) after joining any IIT are also NOT eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2025.
Candidates who have been admitted to a preparatory course in any of the IITs for the first time in 2024 can appear in JEE (Advanced) 2025. The candidates who were allocated a seat in an IIT through JoSAA 2024 but:
- did not report “online” / at any “reporting centre” OR,
- withdrew before the last round of seat allotment, OR,
- had their seat cancelled (for whatever reason) before the last round of seat allotment for IITs, are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2025.
However, in all of the above cases, the candidate is also required to fulfill the conditions mentioned from Criterion A1 to Criterion A4.
The following qualifying examinations will be considered equivalent to 12th standard:
- Final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by a Central or State Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
- Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a Board or University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.
- Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
- Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
- Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or a foreign country is recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the AIU.
- H.S.C. vocational examination.
- Diploma recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or a State Board of Technical Education of at least 3 years duration.
- General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
- High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

- If your board calculates aggregate marks based on both 11th and 12th grades, only the 12th-grade marks will be considered for JEE Advanced 2025.
- For a 3-year diploma or equivalent courses, only the marks from the final year will be counted.
- Boards following a semester system will use the marks from the last two semesters.
- If your board only provides an overall aggregate without individual subject scores, then the aggregate marks given by the board will be taken as is.

Relaxation in JEE Advanced Eligibility Criterion 2025
Candidates who successfully registered for JEE Advanced 2024 but were absent in both the papers, i.e. Paper 1 and Paper 2, were eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2024 and do not need to fulfill eligibility criteria 1 to 4 mentioned above. However, they must successfully register for the JEE Advanced in the online registration portal and pay the registration fee.
Criterion 5: JEE Advanced 2025 Eligibility Criteria – Earlier Admissions at IITs
Candidates who were previously admitted to an IIT through JoSAA 2024 are not eligible for JEE Advanced, irrespective of whether they continued in the programme or not. Also, those candidates who accepted an IIT seat by reporting at a reporting centre in the past will not be termed eligible for admission. Along with the above-mentioned eligibility criteria, those candidates whose admissions to IITs was cancelled after joining will also not be eligible for JEE Advanced 2025 as per the condition.
However, candidates who were admitted to a preparatory course in any of the IITs for the first time in 2024 will be able to appear for JEE Advanced 2025.
