About JEE Main 2026
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will organize the JEE Main 2026 exam in two phases, one in January and the second in April. The exact JEE Main exam dates for both sessions will be shared in the notification. The JEE Main 2026 application form was released by NTA on October 31, 2025, on its official website. Candidates can fill out the form from October 31 to November 27, 2025 (up to 9:00 PM).
NTA JEE Main 2026 will be held for three different courses:
- Paper 1 (Engineering) – It is a paper for B.Tech. It is going to be the test of your knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The question paper comprises 75 questions in total, i.e., 25 questions from each subject, and each question has 4 marks.
- Paper 2A (Architecture) – If you are interested in B.Arch, then this paper is for you. It will consist of questions from Mathematics (25 Q), Drawing (2 Q), and General Aptitude (50 Q). Each of the questions in this paper is worth 4 marks.
- Paper 2B (Planning) – This is for B.Plan aspirants. As per the prescribed syllabus, the question paper will offer 25 questions from mathematics and planning sections and another 50 questions from the general aptitude section in the exam, carrying 4 marks each.

What is JEE Mains?
JEE Main ( Joint Entrance Examination Main): It is a national-level entrance exam conducted in online (computer-based) mode. It is performed to provide admission to students in various B.E., B.Tech., B.Arch., and B.Planning courses.
The JEE Main exam is divided into two papers:
- Paper 1 is meant for those applying to B.E/B.Tech programs offered by top engineering institutes like NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
- Paper 2 is held for candidates interested in B.Arch and B.Planning courses at colleges that accept JEE Main scores.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2026 – Who can apply?
The candidates must satisfy the following conditions to fulfill the eligibility criteria for JEE Main exam:
- Indian nationality is essential to apply, but candidates possessing the PIO (Persons of Indian Origin), OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) & NRIs (Non-Resident Indian) are also permitted to apply.
- They can apply if they have appeared in Class 12 board exam or have given the same.
- There is no age limitation to be eligible for JEE Main 2026.
- There is no minimum percentage required in class 12 for JEE Main.
- A student is allowed to appear for JEE Main for three consecutive years from the year when he/she has qualified Class 12.
- Foreign Nationals, OCIs, NRIs, and PIOs are exempt (not required) to appear for JEE Main – for seeking admission in NITs, IIITs, CFTIs or SFTIs, but are generally required to appear for JEE Main (if seeking admission in IITs) and apply through DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) mode.

JEE Main Minimum Age Criteria
There is no age limit to apply for JEE Main 2026. Candidates who have qualified Class 12 or equivalent exam in 2024, 2025, or are appearing in 2026 are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2026, whatever their age. However, the individual colleges or institutions may have their specified age limits, which a candidate needs to verify during their application for admission.

JEE Main 75% Marks Criteria
There is no need for candidates to have secured 75% marks in Class 12 to sit in the JEE Main entrance exam. There is no minimum percentage needed to take (take with a grain of salt idiom synonym) the JEE Mains exam. However, the 75% marks criterion applies only at the time (race against time phrase meaning) of admission to IIITs, NITs, and GFTIs. On the other hand, some institutes may offer admission even without this 75% requirement, depending on their individual rules.
JEE Main State Code of Eligibility
The State Code of Eligibility is the state to which a candidate originally belongs. Who passed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination, and based on state code of eligibility, the candidate is eligible to participate in JEE Main 2025. This code is not related to where a candidate lives or was born. For example, if a candidate has studied and appeared for Class 12 examination from a school in Delhi and he or she is a resident of Noida, in Uttar Pradesh, the state code of eligibility will be Delhi and not Uttar Pradesh since the code is based on the school code rather than the place of residence.

List of Qualifying Exams for JEE Mains
- To meet the criteria for academic qualification, a candidate should have passed their 10+2 or equivalent from a State Recognized or Central board like CBSE/CISCE, or intermediate or two-year pre-university examination. Other acceptable qualifications are completion of the final exam of the NDA’s Joint Services Wing (2-year course) or the Senior Secondary School Examination from NIOS (with a minimum of five subjects).
- Also included in acceptable qualifications are 3-year Diploma courses approved by AICTE/State technical education board, GCE A-Level exam (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at an appropriate level, the Cambridge High School Certificate, IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma from Geneva.
- For candidates who passed class 12 from a foreign country/board other than the Indian board, it is mandatory to get an equivalent certificate from AIU. Also, if their Class 12 exam wasn’t conducted publicly, they must have cleared at least one public Board or pre-university exam earlier.
JEE Main 2026 Application Form
The JEE Main 2026 application form has release online by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on its official website (idioms website) – jeemain.nta.nic.in. To apply, students need to first register by entering basic details like their name, mobile number, and email ID. Once registered, they can begin by filling out the form with details including Class 10 and 12 education, parents’ details, address details, exam city preferences, category, and can upload passport-size photo and signature in the prescribed format.
Those belonging to OBC-NCL or EWS categories must also enter the issuing authority and issue date of their certificate. Candidates belonging to PwD/PwBD category are also asked to upload a valid PwD/PwBD certificate.
In order to fill the JEE Main application form successfully, candidates will have to submit the application fee through online mode via credit/debit card, UPI or net banking. The admission fee, for General it is INR 1000, for OBC the charge is INR 900 and for SC it is Rs. 500.

- Visit the official website of JEE Main 2026.
- Click on the ‘New Candidate Registration’ option.

JEE Main 2026 Answer Key
The NTA uploads the JEE Main Answer Key PDF on its official website within 2-3 days after the exam ends. First, the Provisional JEE Main Answer Key is published. If students find any error in the provisional answer key PDF, they can raise objections online within the given time frame. To challenge any answer, candidates have to pay INR 200 per question.
After reviewing all the objections submitted by candidates, NTA will publish the final answer key. Along with the option to download the JEE Main answer key, the NTA also shares the JEE Main Response Sheet 2026 and the question paper PDF. All these links, including the JEE Main answer key, response sheet, and question paper, can be accessed through the JEE Main login portal on the official website.
How to Download NTA JEE Main Answer Key 2026
Candidates can follow the below-mentioned steps to download the answer key
- Open the JEE Main website
- Click on JEE Main answer key link
- Login using your JEE Main 2026 application number and password/date of birth
- The answer key will be displayed on the screen along with the response sheet
- Download the answer key and take its printout.
The final answer key, released after reviewing the objections submitted by the candidates, will be used for calculating the result/score of the candidates. The final answer key is not subject to the candidates’ challenge/submission of grievances.
JEE Main 2026 answer key challenge
The authorities will give candidates a chance to challenge the JEE Main 2026 provisional answer key. To do so, candidates must pay a fee of Rs. 200 per question they wish to challenge. If the candidate’s objection is found valid, this processing fee will be refunded. After reviewing all raised objections, the final JEE Main 2026 answer key will be uploaded by the officials.

Along with the JEE Main answer key, NTA will also release the candidate response sheet. This sheet shows the answers marked by each student in the exam. The NTA JEE Main 2026 response sheets will help candidates to check their responses and file objections if they find any incorrect answers in the official answer key.
