What is NEET Exam?
The NEET exam is a medical entrance test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for students who want to study MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, BAMS, Veterinary, and other medical or paramedical courses in India. The test is offered in 13 languages, which helps students from different states take (take with a grain of salt idiom synonym) the exam easily. Every year, more than 20 lakh candidates appear for the NEET exam, and the number keeps increasing. Among all courses, MBBS is the most popular option, followed by BDS and BSc Nursing. Last year, the total number of applicants was higher than in previous years.
The NEET UG 2026 exam will be the only national test for UG medical admissions. It will be held in offline mode for seats in 645 medical colleges, 318 dental colleges, 914 AYUSH institutes, and 47 BVSc and AH colleges across the country. The paper will have 180 questions, and students will get 3 hours to finish it. These 180 questions will come from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The marking rules are simple: every correct answer gives 4 marks, every wrong answer reduces 1 mark, and unattempted questions get no marks.

Important Changes That Were Introduced in NEET 2026
The National Testing Agency (NTA) released the NEET 2026 notification on February 8, 2026, along with the official information bulletin. This year, NTA has introduced a few important updates in the NEET application process that students should know about before filling out the form.
- Live Photograph at the Time of Registration: Instead of uploading an existing photo, candidates must now take a real-time photograph while completing the NEET application. The image should be captured in a well-lit setting with a light background. NTA will cross-check this photo with Aadhaar records. If the details do not match, students will be asked to submit an identity certificate with a recent photo, verified and signed by their school or college authority.
- Mandatory Aadhaar Authentication for Identity Check: To strengthen identity verification, NTA has made Aadhaar-based registration the preferred option. Candidates using Aadhaar will go through direct authentication, while those applying with other ID proofs will need to provide extra supporting documents. Students are advised to check that their Aadhaar information is accurate and updated to avoid issues during registration.
- Choosing Exam Cities Carefully: NEET 2026 will be conducted in 566 cities across India. Candidates have to select three exam city options based on their present and permanent address. The exam language depends on the selected state, so students should choose the exam city according to the language they are comfortable with.

NEET 2026 Application Process (Out)
As per the official schedule, the NEET 2026 application process is open from 08 February 2026 to 08 March 2026 (up to 09:00 PM). Candidates can complete the fee payment till 08 March 2026 (up to 11:50 PM) through Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking, or UPI. The application correction window will be available from 10 March 2026 to 12 March 2026, during which students can make changes to the permitted details in their application form.

NEET Correction Window 2026

NEET 2025 Provisional Answer Key by NTA
The NEET 2025 provisional answer key released by NTA came with a small change this time. Instead of many alphanumeric paper codes, the exam had only four sets – 45, 46, 47 and 48. Last year, each set had six subsets, but that was not used this year.
