About JEE Advanced 2025-26: Current Updates

JEE Advanced 2025-26: IIT Kanpur has successfully concluded the JEE Advanced 2025 examination. The results were declared on 2 June 2025. JoSAA counselling process for IIT admissions for 2025 is ongoing. Before the exam, which was conducted on May 18, 2025, the authority released the admit cards, question papers, and both provisional and final JEE Advanced answer keys. JoSAA seat allotment is being done in multiple rounds.

Eligibility Required for JEE Advanced 2026 Candidates should obtain a rank among the top 2,50,000, including all categories (GE, OBC(NCL), SC, ST and Foreign) in JEE Main 2026 Paper 1. They should be born on or after October 1, 2001 (October 1, 1996 in case of SC/ST/PwD), and it should be the first appearance either in 2025 or 2026 for Class 12. None of them should have been admitted to any IIT earlier. Aspirants are required to have cleared Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as mandatory subjects. Further, they also need to have secured a minimum 75% aggregate marks in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST/PwD category candidates) or be in the top 20 percentile of their Class 12th board examination.

JEE Advanced 2025-26 Latest News and Updates

  • Exam & Result Date: JEE Advanced 2025 was conducted on May 18, 2025. The final answer key and results appeared on June 2, 2025.
  • Answer Keys & Papers: Official question papers of JEE Advanced 2025 were made available on the day of the test, i.e., May 18. Provisional answer keys were released on May 25, and objections were accepted from May 26 to 27.
  • Admit Card Release: The JEE Advanced 2025 admit card was released on May 12, 2025.
  • Eligibility & Number of Attempts: Candidates are permitted 2 attempts for JEE Advanced in two consecutive years. Dropper rules are in effect from November 5 through 18, 2024. Candidates need to qualify in JEE Main to be eligible for JEE Advanced.
  • JoSAA Counselling Process: JoSAA counselling for seat allotment in IITs for 2025 has now been initiated, with deadlines set till the end of June for document upload and payment of the fee.
  • JoSAA Seat Allotment: Round 2 of JoSAA counselling announced on June 25, 2025. Students may submit online reports and payments for Round 2 until June 29. There will be a total of six counselling rounds this year.
  • AAT Exam & Result: Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) 2025 for JEE Advanced was held on June 5, 2025, and the result for the same was declared on June 8, 2025.

What is the JEE Advanced Exam?

JEE (Advanced) is conducted under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB) by one of the IITs. It is conducted to offer admission into the B.Tech. Colleges B.Tech./B.E./B.Arch and Combined M.Sc. programs. These are offered at all partner institutions. The JEE Advanced test is conducted jointly by 7 IITs – IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee.

This test is exclusively for the candidates who qualified through JEE Main for the JEE Advanced 2026 test.

IIT Roorkee is likely to be the conducting body for JEE Advanced 2026. For IIT B.Arch admissions, candidates have to qualify JEE Advanced 2026 and select either IIT Roorkee or IIT Kharagpur at the time (race against time phrase meaning) of JEE Advanced counselling to apply for the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT). JEE Advanced 2026 Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for JEE Advanced 2026, candidates must first qualify JEE Main 2026 and rank among the top 2,50,000 in the Common Rank List. Additionally, they must have passed their Class 12 (or equivalent) examination in 2025 or 2026 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, have a date of birth on or after October 1, 2001 (with a five-year relaxation for SC, ST, and PwD candidates), and must not have been previously admitted to an IIT or accepted an IIT seat.

The aspiring candidates will be required to go through the eligibility conditions of JEE Advanced 2026 well before the application forms are released, which will help them know the minimum conditions that need to be fulfilled in order to apply for the exam. These details include age limit, educational qualification, number of attempts, and so on. JEE Advanced Exam Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should have already taken the JEE Main 2026 and passed the JEE Advanced 2026. Then, students will have to achieve the cut-off marks to improve their chances of getting admission.

  1. Age Limit: Candidates of the general category should be born on or after October 1, 2001. Age relaxation will be provided up to 5 years to the students belonging to the SC/ ST/PWD category.
  2. Qualifying Examination: Aspiring candidates should be on their way to have either passed or appeared in the Class 12th or will pass it in 2025 or 2026, with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics subjects included in the eligibility test. Candidates who passed the Class 12th Examination in 2023 or earlier are not eligible for JEE Advanced 2026.
  3. Number of Attempts: Candidates can only give the JEE Advanced exam twice in the year over a period of 2 years. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has granted relief to those students who exited their institutions between November 5 and November 18, 2024, and is giving them a third attempt at JEE Advanced 2025. If they meet the necessary criteria, this exception could also apply in 2026.
  4. IIT Admissions: A candidate is also not allowed to appear in JEE (Advanced) in case they have accepted a seat in any of the IITs in the past by reporting to the reporting centre of the IIT, irrespective of whether or not they joined any IIT. “Even if someone was admitted and then he cancelled his admission, he won’t be treated under the definition of eligible.
  5. JEE Main: Candidates should have cleared the JEE Main exam and should have secured a ranking in the top 2,50,000 of the merit list. Additionally, candidates also have to secure the JEE Advanced cut-off to get admission in IITs. Out of the total number of sanctioned seats, 10% are Open for General-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and the remaining 40.5% is for the general category, which also includes OBC (Non-Creamy) candidates.

JEE Advanced 2025 Cutoff

The cutoff of JEE Advanced 2025 is announced by the authorities along with the result of the exam. The JEE Advanced cutoff 2025 is released on the official portal jeeadv.ac.in. There are two kinds of cutoffs: qualifying and admission.

The JEE Advanced Qualifying cutoff is the minimum mark that applicants should qualify marks to be listed in the JEE Advanced 2025 rank list. The cutoff acceptance is the minimum rank a candidate is required to obtain to even be considered for admission in the participating institutes. For JEE Main 2025, the cut-off for JEE Advanced qualifying is different for different categories.

The qualifying cutoff of JEE Advanced 2025 has seen a significant decrease from previous year. The cutoff of the Common Rank List (CRL) dropped from 109 to 76 marks about 30% dip. Sectional cutoffs decreased by nearly 3% too. These qualifying cutoffs are only for clearing the examination and the admission cutoff for IITs will be different for different IITs and will depend upon the paper difficulty, available seats and performance of the candidates. In order to be eligible to apply, candidates must have secured at least 35% marks (General), 31.5% (OBC-NCL/EWS), 17.5% (SC/ST/PwD). There is a big change in overall CRL cutoff reduction of 109 marks to 76 marks this year.
